From letter formation to getting ideas down in sentences a child feels proud of.

No fixed programme to work through. Sessions follow what your child needs that week, which sometimes means going back a step and sometimes means moving on.
Taught by a primary teacher
Early years and Key Stage 1 are their own specialism. Knowing how phonics is actually taught in school matters more than general tutoring experience.
Calm and encouraging
Young children learn best when they feel relaxed. Sessions are warm and unhurried, with plenty of praise for effort rather than only for getting things right.
In your own home
Children are usually more themselves at their own kitchen table. There is no journey at the end of a long school day, and no unfamiliar room to settle into.

Where I work

Sessions take place in your own home, so there is no journey at the end of the school day and nothing new for your child to get used to. I travel to families across Greater Manchester.
If you are just outside the area, it is still worth asking.
Questions
Things parents often ask.
Which year groups do you work with?
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. These early years are where reading, writing and number sense take root, and where a little individual attention tends to go a long way.
Do I need to know exactly what my child needs help with?
Not at all. Plenty of parents just have a feeling that something is not quite clicking. That is a perfectly good place to start — working out what would help is part of my job, not yours.
Where do sessions take place?
In your own home. I travel to families across South Manchester and the surrounding areas, so there is no journey at the end of an already long school day.
What if my child is shy with new people?
Most are, at first. The first session is unhurried and deliberately easy, and I would far rather spend it getting your child comfortable than push straight into work.
Can you help a child who is learning English as an additional language?
Yes. Children learning English are often doing two jobs at once — following the lesson and learning the language it is taught in. One-to-one time gives them room to do both.
What if my child has additional needs?
Do mention it when you get in touch. I have experience supporting children with SEND and EAL in school, and a slower pace, a different explanation and one-to-one attention help a great many children. Mind & Bloom is general tutoring rather than specialist SEND provision, so if your child needs something more specialist I will say so honestly — and we can still talk about whether sessions would help alongside it.
Do you work with schools or follow the school's plan?
I teach the same phonics and early maths that schools use, so what we do at home should reinforce rather than contradict it. If you would like me to work on something specific the school has mentioned, just say.
Are you checked and qualified to work with children?
Checks, qualifications and insurance are listed on the About page as they are confirmed, and you are welcome to ask to see any of the documents in person before the first session.
How do we get started?
Send an enquiry with a little about your child. We will have a short conversation, and from there either book an initial assessment or go straight to regular sessions — whichever makes more sense for your child.
